Our Team
Ms Sarath Tek – Executive Director
Life Goal - To promote a culture of water safety and awareness in Cambodia, helping children gain the skills and confidence they need to enjoy water activities safely. Additionally, I am passionate about empowering young people to engage in social work and give back to their communities, fostering a new generation of leaders and supporters.

I joined HTK on the 6th of September 2023 and my role is the Executive Director for Hile Teuk Kampuchea (HTK). What attracted you to HTK was the organisations pioneering role as the first Cambodian NGO dedicated to reducing child drowning in Cambodia which was a significant draw for me. My deep commitment to education, public health, and child protection made HTK’s mission especially compelling. Having witnessed the devastating impact of child drowning firsthand, I felt a strong desire to contribute to this crucial cause. Joining HTK has been both a meaningful and motivating step, allowing me to advance efforts in this vital area.
What motivates me to stay involved is because child drowning is preventable, and HTK’s work makes a tangible difference in addressing this critical issue. Seeing the positive impact of our efforts drives me to continue contributing to this important cause.
As the Executive Director and the first staff member of HTK, leading the drowning prevention program in Cambodia has been an extraordinary journey. Seeing the team—composed of volunteers from diverse backgrounds—come together and support each other has been immensely fulfilling.
One of my favorite parts is observing teamwork and dedication in action. It’s inspiring to see the progress we’re making in building knowledge and capacity. Additionally, I am delighted by the active participation and enthusiasm of students, teachers, and the community in the classes we offer. Their engagement and positive feedback truly make our efforts worthwhile.
My most rewarding experience has been witnessing our team collaborate effectively with rural schools, positively impacting students, teachers, and the broader community. I’ve also found great fulfillment in working with provincial education officials and local authorities to address and tackle the issue of drowning in Cambodia. Additionally, the strength and camaraderie within the HTK team have been incredibly gratifying. Their enthusiasm and mutual support in advancing the drowning prevention program highlight the impact we can achieve when we work together.
Working with HTK has taught me valuable lessons in leadership and how to drive the organization forward. I’ve gained experience in building strong relationships with stakeholders and fostering effective teamwork. These skills have been crucial in advancing our mission and achieving our goals.

Our Volunteers
Ms Khong Sokkorn – Volunteer Trainer Lead
Life Goal Sharing knowledge and skills with the community is my passion
Why am I volunteering at SWIM Cambodia/ Hile Teuk Kampuchea?
I originally volunteered for SWIM Cambodia, since 2018, and later on I also started volunteering for Hile Teuk Kampuchea (HTK) since this organization first started here in Siem Reap. Working and sharing good knowledge and skill to the community is my passion.
The experience of losing someone from drowning with the lack of awareness and education to keep ourselves and others safe is so painful. Before starting volunteering, I lost my niece who just successfully graduated from her bac 2 when she hosted a small party with her friends at home. Her strong will of trying to save her friend who failed into the pond and drowned, she jumped into the pond without realizing that she put herself in the big risk.
Her friend was saved, unfortunately my niece died at that time. A few years later, I almost lost one more niece from drowning because she and her cousin wanted to play in the water and she slipped and failed into the water. The water current was strong and fast. It took her further down and away from her cousin.
Luckily my cousin noticed my nephew crying for help. He came fast and saved her on time. My nephew who was in that situation, and saw what happened but could not help his little cousin carried that dramatization for a long time. I know I cannot stop everyone from drowning, but I can be part of spreading the knowledge and skills to the community in the hope of building their awareness and to continue to spread wider to reduce the number of drownings.

Our Future Plans
Some of our plans are to deliver drowning prevention education to primary school children, educate and train school teachers as Water Safety Educators, provide swimming and water safety lessons to school aged children, set up a swim teacher training course and provide mentorship to those wishing to become a swim teacher.
Our goal is to expand nationwide and reach as many children as possible. We plan to introduce survival swimming courses once we secure sufficient funding. To support our mission, individuals and organizations can help by spreading awareness about drowning prevention, volunteering, or providing financial support to expand our programs.
